e-Questrian, the Quest Website, was created over by Sam Shemitz '11 in 2009 for the purposes of facilitating easier access to the Quest archives and simplifying other services the newspaper provides. The previous website for the Quest had gone down in a server crash, and its archives had been limited to high-filesize .pdf files anyway. This new website takes the Quest into the present by offering its Archives on an article-by-article basis, simplifying access, reducing loading times and filesize/bandwidth, and increasing privacy. In addition to idle curiosity, the e-Questrian archives should greatly ease the work of anyone wanting to research the history of Reed or of a particular Reed institution, be they writing for the Quest, their senior thesis, or some other purpose.
However, e-Questrian is not solely a database of old Quest articles, and offers other functionality, including easy-to-access information on writing or even working for the Quest as well as the paper's history. Although emailing quest@reed.edu remains the best way of submitting content to the Quest services such as straw polls benefit tremendously from the anonymous submission that e-Questrian provides. Finally, e-Questrian looks forward in the coming months to bringing you even more new content and functionality, such as additional images for articles that might have taken up too much space in print editions. If you have any ideas for features to add to e-Questrian, as with anything else, shoot us a line at quest@reed.edu! In the meantime, keep checking back here and at reedquest to get your Quest fix between Wednesdays.
